All children in kindergarten through 2nd grade play (U7 and U8) in this league. Kids older than this play in the traveling team league. Teams are co-ed. There are no all-boy or all-girl teams at this age level. Children may request to be placed on a team with one friend. That friend must request the same friend, i.e. if Jim requests to play with Scott; Scott must request to play with Jim. We make every effort to honor these requests.
The child (or children) of the coach and assistant are automatically placed on their team. All other children are assigned randomly to teams attempting to keep an even mix of boys and girls on each team.
Teams in this league play only against other McFarland teams in the same age group, i.e. U7 teams play other U7 teams. There are up to 12 players on a team. Games are 4 vs. 4 with no goalkeepers. There are 8 games scheduled in the fall; 8 games in the spring. Two games are played side-by-side so at all times 8 of the 12 players are participating. Games are generally scheduled on one weekday and on Saturdays. All games are played at William McFarland Park. One practice per week is recommended. The time of the practice is determined by the coach.
The fee is $70.00 for the full season and $50.00 for a half season. Checks are to be made payable to: McFarland Soccer Association (or MSA). A t-shirt is provided each year for players at this level.
Refunds will be offered when:
- the child
moves out of the McFarland area
- there is not an age appropriate team available and your child does not want
to play up at the next level
Refunds will
not be offered when:
- your child changes their mind part way through the season
- your child is not able to play due to an injury
A t-shirt is provided each year for players in the U-7 and U-8 in-house league. All kids are responsible for coming to games with soccer cleats* and shin guards.
*At this age level, cleats are not required; though they are strongly recommended especially for playing on wet and slippery grass.
There are 3 different ball sizes in soccer. They are numbered 3, 4 and 5. A #3 should be used by kids from U-7 through U-8. A #4 should be used by kids from U-9 through U-12 and a #5 should be used by U-13 and up.
